About SCHD
SCHD tracks the Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index, which screens for companies with at least 10 consecutive years of dividend payments, then filters by cash flow to debt ratio, return on equity, dividend yield, and 5-year dividend growth rate. The result is a concentrated portfolio of roughly 100 high-quality dividend-paying US companies.
SCHD is the most widely discussed dividend ETF in the FIRE community. Its combination of above-average yield and strong dividend growth makes it a core holding for income-focused investors. The fund leans heavily into financials, healthcare, consumer staples, and energy, with almost zero technology exposure. With an expense ratio of just 0.06%, it's one of the cheapest dividend ETFs available.
