Built for people who want their money to work for them.
In 2016, a friend introduced me to real estate investing and a book that changed the way I think about money. That was the start. Once you see income through the lens of financial independence, it changes how you evaluate everything. Real estate, dividend ETFs, side-hustles. It all becomes the same question: how do I build income that doesn't require my time?
In 2019, my wife and I bought our first rental property and we've added another one since. We'd had various brokerage accounts with a few investments here and there, but in 2025 I consolidated everything and got serious about fast-tracking our FIRE goals. That's when I went looking for tools.
There are plenty of budgeting apps, retirement calculators, and spreadsheets floating around. But nothing was purpose-built for the way FIRE investors actually think. Nothing pulled real dividend data automatically. Nothing showed you projected income from your actual holdings without a spreadsheet and an hour of research. So I built the tool I wanted to use, at a price I would be willing to pay.
Fire Tools is a calculator suite, a portfolio dashboard, and a collection of resources built for people on the path to financial independence. We're early in this journey ourselves, and we're building Fire Tools alongside it. The hope is simple: that this tool helps you see where you stand, where you're headed, and how to get there a little faster.
— John, Founder
Real data for 74 ETFs.
We track dividend history, current yield, growth rates, expense ratios, payment schedules, and fund composition for 74 FIRE-relevant ETFs across 11 categories. Data refreshes every weekday at 6 PM ET. The projections in our calculators are powered by each fund's actual dividend history, not assumptions.
We're building this with you.
Fire Tools isn't a finished product handed down from above. It's a tool built by a FIRE investor who uses it, for FIRE investors who need it. If a feature is missing, if a calculation feels off, if there's an ETF we should add, we want to hear about it. The goal is simple: build the tool that actually helps us reach financial independence. Your feedback shapes what we build next.
About the Builder

John Trice
FIRE investor, entrepreneur, and the builder behind Fire Tools. After years of tracking dividends in spreadsheets and cobbling together data from half a dozen sources, I decided to build the tool I always wished existed. Fire Tools is that tool. When I'm not building, I'm investing, reading, or figuring out how to make money work harder so I don't have to.
