Privacy Policy
Effective May 27, 2026
Fire Tools (“Fire Tools,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates fire-tools.com and related services (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials through our auth provider (Supabase). We may also collect profile details you choose to add, such as your name or FIRE goals.
- Calculator inputs. Values you enter into our free calculators are processed to return results. Inputs are not tied to your identity unless you are signed in and choose to save them.
- Portfolio data. If you use the portfolio dashboard, we store the holdings, transactions, and notes you add or import (including through CSV uploads or connected brokerage integrations) to provide the Service.
- Usage data. We collect standard log data (IP address, browser type, pages viewed, timestamps) and use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the Service is used.
- Communications. If you contact us or sign up for the waitlist or newsletter, we store your email and any messages you send.
How we use information
- To provide, operate, and improve the Service.
- To authenticate users and secure accounts.
- To respond to support requests and send product updates you opted into.
- To monitor performance, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
Service providers
We share information with vendors who help us run the Service, under contractual confidentiality and security obligations. These include: Supabase (database, authentication), Vercel (hosting), Stripe (payment processing for Founder Edition deposits and subscriptions), Resend (transactional and marketing email), and Plaid (brokerage account connections). Market data is sourced from third-party data providers.
Plaid
When you choose to link a brokerage account, we use Plaid Inc. (“Plaid”) to securely connect your account and retrieve investment holdings on your behalf. Plaid is a regulated financial-data network used by thousands of consumer financial applications. By linking your account, you consent to Plaid’s collection and use of your financial credentials and account data in accordance with Plaid’s End User Privacy Policy.
We never see, store, or have access to your bank login credentials. Plaid provides us with a long-lived access token that lets us read investment holdings and account metadata (institution name, account type, last four digits of the account number). We store this access token encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM and use it solely to refresh your holdings. You can disconnect a linked institution at any time from the portfolio settings page, which immediately revokes the token with Plaid and removes it from our systems.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, preferences, and analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may limit parts of the Service.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account at any time.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, email us at info@fire-tools.com.
EU and UK users (GDPR)
If you’re in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation gives you additional rights.
Lawful basis for processing. We process your information on the following bases:
- Contract: to provide the Service you signed up for (account, portfolio, calculators)
- Consent: for marketing emails, optional analytics, and connecting third-party accounts via Plaid (you can withdraw consent at any time)
- Legitimate interest: for security, fraud prevention, and product improvement (you can object via info@fire-tools.com)

Your rights. You may request to access, correct, export, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise these rights, email info@fire-tools.com.
International transfers. Fire Tools is operated from the United States. Your data is transferred to and processed in the U.S. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses with subprocessors located outside your jurisdiction where applicable.

If you’re a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you additional rights.
Categories of information we collect. Identifiers (email, IP address), commercial information (subscription history), internet activity (usage data), and financial information you provide (portfolio holdings, brokerage account metadata via Plaid).
We do not sell your personal information. We also do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

You may request to know what personal information we have collected about you, request deletion of your information, request correction of inaccurate information, and limit the use of sensitive personal information. To exercise these rights, email info@fire-tools.com or use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link in our footer.
No discrimination. We won’t deny service, charge different prices, or provide a different quality of service because you exercised your CCPA rights.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and row-level security on our database. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
